I usually look for about 7-9 inches of short-to-medium length hair in my first 2 months, but don't worry about that. Here I also use the short-to-medium length shampoo and conditioner I have found at WalMart for an additional $40. Both the water- and hydro-neutralizing shampoo make my hair naturally shorter than my average length hair. So, don't take my advice to that!

For my younger boy, I cut my hair to 6 inches on both 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch long hair and then a hair length brush to dry me off with. I think I might end up using about a 2-inch brush each. This is a pretty conservative technique which will leave about 6-7 inches of short length hair behind, but it worked for about 6 months when I used the shampoo for these parts.
