Named after the country's richest man, former president Marcos, the first of seven presidents, quinceanera was a tropical citrus tree that appeared in the Philippines as early as the 19th century. It is a type of tree found all over the Americas and is typically a sweetgreen in shade and is especially prized in the north of China and Southeast Asia.

It is commonly planted under tropical conditions, a rarity in the rainforest of the Amazon Basin.

Quinceanera is not indigenous to the Philippines and is more common in parts of eastern and central Asia. But it is considered a tree for sale in Japan, which is often home to such rich people.
