In response to my email questions, the company had responded: "We have a lot of experience in handling this kind of content, and are actively developing our own platform for content creators. As a result, our focus continues to be on our core audience." I want to elaborate on why I think that is the case.

I think it's very clear that the people who wrote and hosted the entire thing needed help getting the site, and at least some level of development, out. The people who made the music will soon be able to download that music and share it with the rest of us, no doubt. I think that is what makes the site great.

Of course, there are always exceptions. A lot of people who created the music can still remix everything—especially the covers and video, which are all free to use and share. I feel that if we could get the music out in the free-for-all format, things could happen.

But in our case, there's an opportunity to get out of that arrangement to make more money. There's a lot of people who have been involved in the band since the original CD release. If you consider that as a revenue source for the band you could turn it into a whole bunch of other things.

So I think the best way to make that happen is, if you're lucky, the band can pull it off.
